Villa MarliaBack to Tuscany
Villa Marlia is a spectacular six bedroom, six bathroom, air-conditioned residence perched high on the green hills just a few kilometers outside of Lucca - an idyllic setting for family vacation rentals or group retreats. Truly a gem of a Tuscan town, Lucca is famous for its original city walls that have remained intact over centuries - just one aspect of the city's timeless beauty. The town is easily navigable on foot or by bike, full of delightful and romantic surprises around every corner. It is located in the Colline Lucchese, an area known for its grand classic villas, stunning views, and wine and olive production.
Throughout the Villa Marlia, ancient stone walls are highlighted with special lighting and accented with wrought iron and silver, along with precious paintings and art objects. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings displaying their original wooden beams, and the floors have maintained their original red terracotta tiles. A tasteful mix of modern and functional furnishings with elegant, antique pieces, creates a truly comfortable and efficient atmosphere.
From the Villa, one can admire the beautiful and evocative Apuan Alps crowning the horizon. It is even possible to see some of the white marble quarries that export this precious stone all over the world. These alpine peaks, a popular destination for hiking trails and other interesting excursions, are renowned for their marvelous vistas stretching out towards the not-too-distant Mediterranean Sea.
The ground floor of the Villa Marlia has two comfortable sitting areas, one with a large fireplace and direct access onto a beautiful outdoor, vine-covered terrace lounge area. The other indoor sitting area has a TV and flows directly to a cozy dining area, and then on to a well-equipped kitchen with eating table. A glass door in the kitchen opens to a delightful outdoor vine-covered dining terrace, equipped with a barbecue grill, pizza oven, and best of all, breathtaking mountain views. Before heading upstairs, guests will find a convenient WC and laundry room.
On the first floor of the Villa, a large sitting room - with vaulted beamed ceilings, a marble fireplace, and TV - is an inviting space for groups to gather comfortably. Five of the six bedrooms are on this floor: Bedroom 2 has a private terrace and shares a full bathroom with Bedroom 3. The other three bedrooms on this floor each have their own full, private, en suite bathroom.
Upstairs on the second floor, an enclosed lounge area with a double sofa bed and fireplace also has a large wooden table that is perfect for writing postcards or in a travel journal while soaking in the inspiring mountain views right outside. Finally, the relaxing Master Bedroom Suite includes a canopy queen bed and beautiful views of the surrounding forest. The spacious Master Bathroom includes a jacuzzi bathtub, double sinks, and an oversized walk-in shower.
Typical of this beautiful area of Tuscany, the hill on which the Villa stands is divided into different “scaloni,” or stair-like terraced areas. The Villa itself is nestled on the first terrace; the second terrace hosts a beautiful swimming pool facing the vast valley and providing a lovely spot from which to enjoy the marvelous panorama.
The swimming pool is large and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities for relaxing or sunbathing poolside. An additional gazebo provides a covered area where one can enjoy cool summer breezes. A small pool house serves as a changing room and is also equipped with a bathroom, shower, refrigerator, and two single beds.
The garden’s English lawn is embellished with large vases containing flowers, citrus trees, aromatic plants and creeping vines (including grapes) that guarantee cool shade in the outdoor living and dining areas. The Villa has two adjoining outdoor areas: the first, located near the kitchen, where a table and chairs are set up for dining in the cool shade; the second, where couches, armchairs and small tables provide a comfortable lounge area for relaxing moments. From this outdoor lounge area, stairs lead to a greenhouse (solarium), a welcoming and intimate refuge where you can relax, savor a good coffee, practice yoga, and perhaps find inspiration for some painting or writing.
Further up you will arrive at a delightful panoramic terrace, under the shade of trees, where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view of the valley while reading a book and enjoying a glass of good local wine. Upon request, a table and chairs can be set up here for an unforgettable alfresco dining experience.
