About
This Space

Set within the beautiful Tuscan landscape, the Il Melograno five-bedroom Italian villa rental is the ideal Italian holiday retreat. Completely restored in 2005, this vacation home is an antique farmhouse located within walking distance to the nearby village of San Giovanni d’Asso. The charming villa is separated into two units, each with a private entrance, living room, and kitchen, making it the perfect home for large groups looking for a touch of privacy and for smaller groups alike. The terracotta tile roof, ceramic floors, earth tones, wood beams, and many more rustic touches will charm you.

The two-bedroom space comes complete with a traditional open Tuscan fireplace, fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, and small terrace on the ground floor. Situated at the top of the travertine staircase, the two colorful bedrooms are equipped with AC as well as ceiling fans. The first bedroom has a queen bed and en suite bathroom. The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be joined to form a queen and an en suite bathroom.

The three-bedroom space has a comfortable living room, eat-in kitchen, and guest bathroom on the ground level. The upper level features a charming second living room with fireplace. Two of the bedrooms on this level have queen beds with en suite bathrooms, while the third has two twin beds that can also be joined to form a queen, as well as a complete bathroom. All three bedrooms have AC.

The stunning private grounds of Il Melograno feature a 12x5m pool, pool house, and terrace where guests can enjoy a meal al fresco. The outdoor dining table can seat up to ten guests, and the brick pool house comes equipped with a kitchenette as well as a bathroom with shower. While there is no shortage of fabulous food in the area, guests can also enjoy pomegranates and olives from the trees on the grounds.

About San Giovanni d’Asso

Il Melograno is located in the middle of the small, romantic village of San Giovanni d’Asso, situated in the countryside just south of Siena. It is home to a beautiful ancient castle, a truffle museum, and the small 11th-century Romanesque church of San Pietro. The village offers amenities like a coop supermarket, butcher’s shop, pharmacy, general store, coffee-bar, wine and cheese tasting spot, bank, post office, and two charming restaurants. Not to mention that on Wednesday mornings an open-air market takes place along the main street. The villa is a lovely walk into town (about 10 minutes or 1.2 kilometers)

We had a wonderful vacation in Italy and another excellent Haven In experience. We loved the villa and had a wonderful time. I can't say enough nice things about both Federica and Lorenzo. I communicated quite a bit with Federica in advance of the trip and she was very helpful with recommendations and information. Lorenzo, her son, met us and despite some travel delays on our part, they were very flexible and he was there waiting when we arrived. We communicated with Lorenzo throughout our stay and he was terrific. He was on time for checkout. He was very knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations. We had two AMAZING cooking classes and dinners with Grazia, the chef Federica and Lorenzo recommended. She came with her niece to give us a cooking class and then prepare dinner. They were both lovely. We enjoyed our time with them and the meals they prepared were some of the best we had in Italy (and we had a lot of great food!). I highly recommend using them if you stay at the villa. We also did a truffle tour with Paolo who was recommended. Lorenzo came along as his translator. We had a great outing. It was so nice that this was right outside the gates of our villa. Paolo was very knowledgeable and personable. We opted for the local foods tasting which was beautifully set up at the end of our walk. In short, we had a very nice time and thought the villa and its owners were wonderful. We also very much appreciate the role Haven In plays. It gives us much more peace of mind to rent an apartment or house through you than simply going on VRBO or Airbnb. We hope to have vacations in Haven In properties in the future. I keep watching to see what new areas you have expanded to!

The villa and gardens were wonderful, in reality even more than on the pictures. We enjoyed the authentic feel, practical amenities, large swimming pool annex deck, astonishing views and quiet location very much. We were well taken care of by Lorenzo, our host. He kept the garden and pool very clean during our stay. We appreciated the practical information available in the house (nearest shops, restaurants, trips, ...). The location of the villa is very peaceful - at night the only sound you hear are birds singing.

We (4 couples) stayed at Il Melograno for 1 week and loved it. There was plenty of room to spread out and all of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms-3 ensuite and 2 right across the hall. The bedrooms have a/c units, which is great. The grounds are magnificent and the pool is beautiful. Federica was a wonderful greeter and she did a great first food shopping for us (90 euros)before we arrived. Her son Lorenzo, came by each morning to clean the pool and take away the recycling. We went truffle hunting with Paolo and his dog, visited vineyards, cooked a few dinners at home and went out for others. We had the chef-Grazia-prepare dinner our first evening. She was lovely, but did not prepare anything that we had requested. Federica emailed me 3 menus to choose from and we chose a steak, salad, etc. She prepared chicken and lasagne, which were ok and a strange dish that was a salad with scrambled eggs on it, which no one ate. I arranged this all through Federica, so I am not sure if it was a communication issue between the two of them? My only wish is that there were screens in the downstairs windows. There is no a/c on the main level of the home and it got quite warm. The evening air was nice and cool, but we could not open the windows without getting attacked by mosquitoes. Lorenzo brought us more fans, but the air would have been lovely! I would definitely recommend Il Melagrano!
